There’s nothing like grinding winter swells to get the heart pumping and the urges to cut loose rising!
And so it is that the first weekend of June is countdown time for the Shoes mid-year World Titles showdown – the best showcase of wave-riding in the southern
hemisphere.
Correction, on the planet!
Contest No 5 is always something of a maker and a shaker. After all, there’s only one Shoes, only one Shoes Club, only one set of Shoes members, only one Shoes pavilion, one Shoes Reef…. the list is endless. Unique.
If the wave gods are with us, it will be firing this weekend – and there will be no excuses for anything other than massive slashes; off to the moon aerials; three metre long floaters – and of course heavy duty over the falls.
Titles are on the line in all the super divisions.

Many moons ago it was decided to make contest dates on morning high tides, as everyone knows thats when shoes is at its most totally awesome.. Every second week by the force of the insane far out intergalactic gravitational energy of the universe this happens man 🙂
Johnny Hvass has been printing the same dates off since the clubs re emergence in the early 90’s, never changed. this weekend’s high is at around 6:30am, perfect for shoes! why its not on this weekend is a total mystery for the galaxy to breath in….
if you look back on how many june contest have not been surfed because of this the results are totally mind blowing. ha ha
anyhow the point is shoes will be good this weekend and less likely to be good when everyone rocks up on next weeks early low tide.
