The Shoes Brigade turned on a jaw dropping display of first rate surfing to finish the contest year on a super high.
With swell hitting square on the Reef that Rules, Contest Director Guy Turner made a great call to launch a Down to the Wire spread of competitive brilliance across all three divisions.
Every manoeuvre known to man, woman and child was on display, making for a tournament that had the heavyweights at the WSL dipping their heads in dismay.
Going into the November battle ground, the championship leaders across Opens, Masters and Juniors-Grommets were all on notice that topline performances were required to ensure they didn’t slide down the points tables.
And so, not only did the leaders rise to the occasion, they went on a blitz that helped secure high ratings, but at the same time inspired all competitors to attack the swells with a vengeance to put points tallies cheek by jowl.
In the Opens, a blast from the past erupted the Shoes Pavilion as goofy footer Tommy Mulder turned on a display of surging, precise, take no prisoners wave destruction to claim the No ! slot ahead of second placed Luca Durante, the Master of the Swell Matty Cook and the Sutherland Shire’s supreme female surfer Jazmyn Turner.
The Masters was equally thrilling, with every wave bashed, blasted and slashed. Brett Daintry claimed first place, followed by Chris Durante, Donn Salisbury and Guy Turner.
The power and the glory were equally to the fore in the charging Juniors, with Luca Salisbury nailing first place, just ahead of Jaya, Alec Durante and the ever graceful and wave demolition specialist Evie Fisher.
So, by any stretch of the imagination, season 2019 was a wonder, full blown, inspiring and captivating set of contests that upheld the Sandshoes tradition of take no prisoners, keep the faith, make every ride a winner, enjoy the Reef like a favourite Auntie/Uncle.
The celebration of a fantastic season is locked in for Friday December 6 at the South Cronulla Bowlo, kicking off at 5.30pm. Members, sponsors and families are all welcome.
Be there or be square!!.
