Former Open Champ, Jarrod Horner, pushed the limits to secure an April contest victory that had flash and style all over the shop.
In a hard-hitting final, held in chunky wave conditions, Horner got the better of Matty Cook, reigning champ Tommy Mulder and a steaming Drew Kelly.
The Reef served up a full day of swell that put every contestant to the test, with 1976 World Pro Champion Peter Townend looking on with delight at one of his favourite all-time surf haunts.
PT not only watched proceedings but kicked-in and judged seven straight heats across open, juniors, Over 40s and SuperGroms.
He was full of praise for the high level of surfing performances across the day – especially the power-packed efforts of the Earle brothers, Dion (who claimed the Juniors final) and Jarvis (who nailed the Groms final).
Dion carved wave after wave to pip Koby Napper and Lachlan Hickey, while Jarvis turned on the fireworks to claim first place from Maxim, Sam, Luca and Oscar.
The Over 40s showdown produced powerhouse performances across the board, with Steve Cryer edging out Brett Daintry, Critta Durante and Paddo.
The next showdown is 7-8 May, with the back-up date of 28-29.
