Challenging waves over two days allowed the 2010 contest season to get off to a grand start last weekend.
The level of surfing across all three divisions was outstanding and augurs well for a gung ho race for the trio of championships and the new Encouragement Awards.
Jarrod Horner and his brother Jesse earned themselves the honour of taking poll position on the points table with their respective victories in the Open and Junior finals.
Jarrod got the better of a rampaging Matt Mulder, Drew Kelly and his dad Jack.
Jesse notched some super rides to edge out Nathan Hatheier, Tyler Barnes and reigning Junior Champ Reece Moffat.
There were barrels, head dips, gauging bottom turns and some sick floaters on show throughout.
The Super Groms were on fire in some of best waves for a Shoes event in many months. Nathan Martin pipped Eathan Jackson, Spencer Barnes, Dion Earle and Ben Boylan.
The first round produced a steady stream of new members and some returning surfers. The Club was stoked to see Cabo, Matty Mulder and Peter Hvass back in the juice!
Go to the Photo Gallery to catch-up on Leah Maclean’s outstanding coverage of the pointscore, and the Video section for Paul Byers take on all the action.
Members please note: The Committee has voted to stamp-out poor sportsmanship. Members free-surfing in the competition area during heats will be disqualified from that month’s competition and receive zero points.
