Earlier in April the Boylan clan headed for 10 days of surfing in Fiji. Here is a report from Simon and some images of the boys in action ….
“We stayed at Matanivusi resort on the Coral Coast. Matanivusi has only 6 bures and is a specific surf resort catering for surfers and their surf widows (and surf orphans). There are 3 exclusive breaks and one shared with Waidroka resort, as well as a 30 minute trip out to Frigates reef, a world class left hander that runs for 200 to 300 metres.
“We surfed Shifties from 2 to 6 ft, a fun right hander with some short barrel sections, Jays at 2 to 3 ft, a fast hollow right hander that just barrels the whole way in shallow water and Pipes from 2ft to 6 ft, a fairly heavy left that is just an awesome barrel from start to finish (and pretty tough on an old natural footer with no knees!). We also scored perfect Frigates at 6 to 8ft and offshore all day.
“Unbelievable long walls and actually a very easy wave to surf (but watch out for the end section!). We had light offshore or glassy conditions on 9 out of 10 days. As you can only surf most spots from half tide up, 6 hour sessions were the norm and we were all totally shattered after 10 days but had an awesome time!”
