The Shoes camp is teeming with family spirit, but also plenty of fraternal rivalry.
There’s the Horner brothers and dad; the Moffat brothers and dad; the Hatheier mum and dad and son and daughter; the Martin dad and brothers; the Coleman dad and son; the Withers mum and daughter; the Earle dad and son; the O’Sullivan dad and son and the Boylan father and sons…the list goes on!
Since the dawn of the club in the early 70s, family ties have played a big role.
And going into the next pointscore on 2-3 July (or 16-17), the adversorial scene is there for all to see – especially in the race for the Junior championship, where youngster Nathan Martin has the jump on his more experienced brother Harrison.
Nathan, last year’s SuperGroms king, has been in awesome form the whole season and is sitting in third position on the points ladder behind Reece Moffat and Jacob Boylan.
Pintsized Nathan’s backside attack has been a sight to see and he just keeps getting better, being ahead of Nathan Hatheier as well on the ladder.
Brothers Jarrod and Jesse Horner will also be going hammer and tongs on the weekend, with reigning Open champ Jarrod holding the slimmest of leads – 3.5 points over Matty Cook.
If the swell is favourable, the SuperGroms battle will be resumed after oversized waves meant no contest in June. Dion Earle is clinging to the No 1 slot, slightly ahead of the ever improving Rohn O’Sullivan, Eathan Jackson, Travis Heaps, Ben Boylan and Jed Felice.
