Lightning has struck twice with David “Cabo” Halyard scoring his second straight No 1 placing, courtesy of a powerful performance in the July pointscore.
It was like he hadn’t shut down after claiming the June open final, with Cabo going for a blistering attack in so-so waves to get the better of Matt Cook, Matt Bradley and Steve Cryer.
The win has sent him spiralling up the championship ladder – especially so since current front runners Jack Irvin, Jarrod Horner and Drew Kelly were on surfari down the coast and missed the action.
Matt Mulder still holds down poll position despite going out in the semi-finals. Mulder produced a stinking aerial-360, but a strategic decision not to select it as his double whammy cost him.
Reece Moffat has pushed his chances for the Junior title with a boom win in the final, inching out a spirited Jacob Boylan, a driving backside attack from Nathan Hatheier and a go-for-broke effort from Andrew Petoumenos.

It’s now onto August.
Please note:
- Cabo claimed this month’s SkullCandy headphones for his back-to-back victories.
- The King of the Beach championship is scheduled for 14-15 August, so we may move our pointscore date to the weekend earlier. Watch this space.
