The Reef that Rules was kind enough to serve up enough swell to give the SuperGroms and Junior competitors plenty of latitude to cut loose in the August Pointscore.
Both camps sliced and diced the challenging conditions that saw Jarvis Earle chalk up another Groms victory, while Nathan Wedesweiler came from behind to bag the No 1 slot in the Juniors.
With no senior surfers about, the two competing categories were under no pressure, performing above themselves from start to finish.
With three contests to go for the year, it was obvious that every competitor was wanting to make the most of the conditions – and rack up vital points on the Championship ladders.
It was an exciting surfing arena with many hundreds of spectators travelling from across town to get a glimpse of the cut and thrust of surfing at its best. Thousands of others watched the live feed on TV screens.
Jarvis was pushed from start to finish in the Groms final, with very little breathing space between the blond bombshell and his opponents.
Connor Natoli was in blazing form to come in second, followed by Harry Fisher, Sam Cornock and Koby Napper.
With the slightest of edges, Jarvis cemented his title chances, picking up a $20 voucher from Puresea Surf Shop.
The Junior final was also a down to the wire affair with Nathan just pipping Henry Fuller, Coady and Oscar Watson-Steege.
Every surfer produced swashbuckling manouevre combos to impress the judges no end.
Nathan earned a leg rope from STC.
A special mention for the strong performances of Casey Earle and Emily Eaves in the Groms.
So now it’s onto September, with the first dates being 5-6, with the backup of 19-20.
