Clean, one metre waves generated a feasting frenzy for Groms and Junior competitors in the April showdown.
There was no fooling around as the waves poured in to provide the perfect playground for a happy breed of youngsters.
Leading the charge were Charlie Chegwidden, Harry Fisher, Jetson Kuch and Kai Withers, with a whole bunch of new and established members storming the Reef like there was no tomorrow.
Cut-throat and amazing manoeuvres were coming thick and fast as the judges caught migraines trying to keep up with the pace and fluidity of one swashbuckling ride after another.
With a massive crowd of parents, uncles, aunties, sisters, brothers and cousins watching on, competitors tore every swell apart.
In the end it was Charlie who gained the top placing with a double whammy nine points out of 10 ride in the opening minutes of the Groms final, followed by new Shoes member Harry Fisher in second, Jetson Kuch in third and Kai Withers fourth.
Other new members to catch the eye and underscore their dangerous abilities were Ryder O’Donnell, Connor Natoli, Lucas Magree and Ryan McGrath.
In a gravity defying blockbuster Junior Final, Blake Sawtell shredded every wave that he caught to edge out Henry Fuller, Nathan and Marcus Moffat.
All round a first class effort that augers well for the rest of the world championship season.
Open division contenders have their chance to take centre stage this coming weekend – 18-19 April.
Be there or be some other inferior place.
