Reigning open champion Jack Irvin has made it clear he plans to retain his title with a definitive win in the August pointscore.
Irvin sealed victory – his third of the season – with a driving, slashing down the line right-hander that had aplomb written all over it.
The ride moved him clear of opponents Tom Mulder, Jarrod Horner, Matt Cook, Matt Mulder and Mark Linsell in a showdown that produced an explosion of great performances, held in waves that offered opportunity all day long.
Matty Mulder’s fifth placing was still good enough to keep him on top of the leader board, on 108 points versus 97 for Irvin and 94 for Jarrod, with a non-competing Cabo Halyard sitting in fourth place with 78 points.
Reece Moffat pulled off plenty of clean-cut manouevres to get the better of Jesse Horner in the Junior final, with Harrison Martin in 3rd and Nick Holman 4th.
Horner is still the frontrunner on 62 points, with Nathan Hatheier on 53, Moffat on 50 and Harrison on 44.
The Super Groms was an absolute blinder, with ace performances coming from one and all competitors.
Dion Earle snapped and trapped a heap of good rides to edge out Nathan Martin, Eathen Jackson and Roan O’Sullivan in the final.
Eathen is still riding high on the championship ladder with 71 points – 7 clear of Nathan. Dion is on 56 and Roan on 41.
Check out all the terrific action from an action-packed day through the excellent photos from Leah and the slick video from Paul.
NOTE: Reece Moffat picked-up the Puresea Surf Shop Encouragement Award voucher for consistent performances throughout, while Mark Linsell’s push into the Open final earned him the SkullCandy earphones.
It’s now on to September 11-12!
