Jesse Horner has zoomed to the top of the 2012 open title honours list with a scene-setting performance in the April pointscore.
The two time Junior Champ has wasted no time since graduating to the Seniors, with two big first placings in a row to displace older brother – and defending titleholder – Jarrod at No 1 on the ratings.
In an event that boasted brilliant weather and solid waves – mixed with a southerly buster and onshore breezes – Horner the Younger dazzled with gouging turns, hideous snaps and jet-propelled speed down the line.
But best of all was an airborne 360 in the final that had the judges on the cusp of awarding the ultimate accolade – a perfect 10.
The manouevre of the contest – extracted in wind swept, over head conditions – sealed Horner victory from Matt Cook, Nathan Daley, Jarrod Horner, Drew Kelly and Kim Anderson.
The Junior race for supremacy was equally eye-opening, with flashes of brilliance in the heats and final.
In the end, Harrison Martin put together a string of dynamic moves to clinch first place from Thomo, Benny Boylan and Andrew Petoumenos.
The SuperGroms is shaping as a gripping showcase. Despite it being a holiday long weekend – with a number of members away – the event still attracted five heats of go-for-it surfing.
Eathan Jackson got the better of the mix of the tricky conditions with a commanding display to grab the spoils from a hard working trio of Bradley, Lachlan and Riley.
