Jetson Kuch was on fire during the May world title contest on the Reef that Rules, claiming first place in a hard fought Groms final.
The waves weren’t brilliant, but the surfing performances of all competitors certainly was!
Jetson pulled off something of an upset victory over reigning champ Jarvis Earle, with a stirring last ride that scored an 8.5 out of 10.
Every finalist poured on the heavy manoeuvres throughout the 45 minute final, with Jarvis coming in second, Harry Fisher third, Charlie Chegwidden fourth, Sam Cornock fifth and Kye Withers sixth.
The Junior clash was just as exciting, with some WSL-style wave carving giving the judges plenty of headaches in determining the results.
In the end, Dion Earle gained the No 1 slot, followed by Blake Sawtell, Koby Nappa and Jacob.
The contest was held in honour of Club Patron Dr John Murray, who tragically died the day before.
The Open and Over 40s divisions were not held.
The June contest dates are 4-5, with the back-up date 18-19.
