The waves may have been small and testing, but that didn’t stop the SuperGroms crew from blasting the reef in their October pointscore.
Koby Napper turned on the fireworks in the final to get the better of a rampant collection of fellow contestants, all throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the high-tide swells.
His final ride, that saw the natural-footer going for air and landing, earned him first place ahead of a rampaging Jarvis Earle, Luca Durante, Fin Moore and Casey Earle.
Other standout performances were forthcoming from Marley Fin, Caitlan Campbell, and Sam Canuak.
The points table for the Groms 2014 Championship is now very congested, with one event in November to be the decider.
The projected big swell in Sydney for the weekend arrived, but was so south it was hitting the Voodoo reefs but generally passing Shoes by. Hence, no Juniors and Open.
But waves willing, the Open and Juniors will be going hammer and tongs on the weekend of 18-19 October.
So members in these two divisions stay fully psyched and charged for this big encounter.
The dates for the November grand final contest are 1-2 and 15-16.
Meanwhile, preparations are coming together nicely for the Shoes Gala Night Championship Presentation on Saturday 29 November at the South Cronulla Bowling Club. All Members, Families and Friends and our generous Sponsors are all welcome!
