Matt Cook pulled out all the stops to chalk-up a memorable victory in the October pointscore, held in chunky one metre waves, but Jack Irvin is still surging for the 2009 open title.
Cookie was on fire throughout the event, putting his new sandy coloured board into plenty of difficult slots and ekeing out every available barrel.
In the semi final he put together a wicked tube-three sixty combo that had the judges thinking about a 10 out of 10.
The win has shot Matt to No 2 on the leaderboard with 80 points – 26 behind Jack, who clocked up a runner-up spot in the final.
John Tucker came in third, Peter Greig 4th and Jarrod Horner 5th. JT is now only one point behind Matt Holman (76 points) and two ahead of Jarrod (74 points).
The November pointscore will have a big impact on the year-end rankings, remembering that the final tallies are based on seven out of eight events.
The battle for supremacy in the Junior Division could not be closer.
Jesse Horner picked up a first place to shoot him to a total of 60 points.
Reece Moffat’s third placing was enough to go to the top of the table on 61 points, with Jacob Boylan also on 60 points.
Jacob placed fourth in the Junior Final, with Nathan Hatheier coming in an impressive second place.
Once again the Super Groms dressed themselves in glory with some spirited surfing in the tricky conditions, with Ethan Jackson edging out Dion Earle, Ben Boylan and Andrew Petoumenos.
Ben still holds a commanding lead on the championship ratings with 69 points – 11 clear of Andrew, 15 clear of Dion and 17 clear of Nathan Martin.
