Matt Mulder masterminded a set of airborne manoeuvres to make the final of the May pointscore – and has zoomed to the Open Championship lead.
Despite finishing fourth behind Jack Irvin, Peter Hvass and Matt Cook in the showdown heat of the day, Mulder ran up big points in the preliminary rounds and has hit 69 points on the leader board – three clear of Irvin and seven ahead of Jarrod Horner.
Aerials – some that failed and some that were landed perfectly – made the difference for Matty, on a day that saw plenty of standout performances in a mix of great to substandard wave conditions.
The May event was one of the biggest – if not the biggest – in club history, with nine first round Open Heats, two Juniors and three Super Groms. Competition didn’t finish to 4.30pm!
We even had big schools of dolphins to add to the spectacle. And blasting music and a great sausage service from Paul Martin.
Irvin and Hvassie were in spectacular form throughout, along with strong efforts from Cabo, Drew and Mark Lindsell.
Matt Holman scored close to perfect points for a thrilling, clean three second tube ride in the quarter finals.
Jess Horner has hit the lead in the Junior division after grabbing the final from Harrison Martin, Nick Holman and Nathan Hatheier.
Horner is two points ahead of Nathan and nine ahead of Tyler Barnes.
Slashing turns and whopper reos were the order of the day in the junior battle for supremacy.
The action in the Super Groms keeps getting hotter and hotter, with Nathan Martin striking gold in the final ahead of Eathen Jackson, Shannon Hatheier, Dion Earle, Travis Heaps and Spencer Barnes.
Martin is one point ahead of Jackson on the title table, with Shannon sitting in third.
