The Shoes contest machine will be back with a vengeance this coming weekend, swell willing.
And hopefully the barrels will be coming thick and fast, with a special guest lined up to take in the proceedings.
Pro Surfings’s first World Champ, Peter Townend, will be dropping by the Pavilion to check all the action.
PT will be in town post visits to both the Quiksilver Pro at his home spot of Snapper Rocks, and the Rip Curl Pro at Bells.
PT was /and is a revolutionary force for pro surfing, dating back to the early 70s. He took out the Tour’s First No 1 slot in 1976, was a founding member of the Bronzed Aussies Surf Team, a rider of small and huge waves, pioneered board designs, gave new meaning to the colour pink, continues as an ambassador for the sport around the globe.
PT also called the Shoes Reef home in the early 80s – so if the swell is up on the weekend, you can bet he’ll be looking to hang five!
If the waves are not doing it, the back-up date for the April showdown is 16-17.
