For the second month in a row, the Reef delivered quality swells that allowed contestants to slash, burn and conquer.
With long walled overhead waves on offer throughout, surfers in all three divisions shone from round one to the finals. It was pure gold with performances reaching beyond anything seen on the WSL circuit – and people around the globe rushing to sign-up for the live feed.
Former Open Champion Reece Moffat got the better of February 1st placegetter Tommy Mulder; Sam Cornock edged out defending SuperGroms titan Jarvis Earle, and new member Cody Linnegar slipped past Marcus Moffat in the Junior Final.
Throughout the contest, every manoeuvre in the book was on offer, giving the judges heart failure at the way towering walls, close down sections and Everest-level peaks were manipulated to gain top points.
In the Opens, Reece and Tommy traded punchy moves, while Daniel Cook kept the family name on a high tier along with Club sponsor and owner of PCC Surfboard, Stu Paterson claiming third place in the final.
The Junior final was a very entertaining affair, with Marcus Moffat just edged out by Cody, with Henry Fuller third and Henry Clarke (back after two years as a skateboarder) clinching fourth.
As always, the SuperGroms had everyone of the 5,000 spectators on their feet as manouevre-riddled rides kept coming fast and furious. Sam and Jarvis were excellent but so were third-placed Charlie Chegwidden and fourth-placed Jackson Hickey.
The excitement and fury of the second event of the year will keep everyone’s emotions on high right through to the next global title exchanges on April 11-12.
