A thundering array of key performances across all divisions saw Shoes claim the inaugural Battle of the Reefs over The Point.
On a dreamy spring day, with the swell cooperating on the Reef that Rules, the Shoes team outpointed the Point by 500 to 400 points.
With a home venue advantage, the Shoes Brigade seem to draw inspiration from the Sharks Preliminary Final NRL victory to set the scene for a blockbuster result.
The other driving force for the Shoes team was the fact that the tournament was held in honour of our much loved and esteemed late member and Patron, Dr John Murray.
Jarvis Earle turned on the fireworks to win the Open Division final, with Matty Mulder in second, Charlie Chedwiggen third, Dion Earle fifth and Matt Cook in sixth.
Other great first past the post performances were turned in by Lachlan in the Juniors, Jasmine in the Ladies, Brett Daintry in the Over 40s, and Harry, Sam and Chae in the Grommets.
A top day was had by all, with Donna and Jody firing up the barbecue with delicious snags and bread to keep the troops happy.
A big thank you to the Point team for making the contest a reality, being such valiant opponents and contributing to a happy and friendly battle of the reefs.
Thanks also to Triple Bull for providing some terrific prizes.
The Battle will be renewed in 2017 when the Point will host our team at THE POINT!
