After a record three month wait, Open surfers finally got to dip their competitive toes in a barnstorming May pointscore.
And not just the Opens, but the Juniors and SuperGroms as well in a sweet day of sunshine and swell.
It was smiles all round as members again took full possession of the Pavilion to take on the Reef and get some contest waves and points under their belt.
Rhys Moffat was in superlative form from the opening heat and maintained that momentum right through to the Open final, making every slash, cuttie and floater count to grab the No 1 slot.
Two time champ Jarrod Horner was also blazing, and finished a couple of points in arrears of Moffat in a final that saw every surfer partying on the waves like it was 1984.
Claiming third was Matty Cooke, with a sweet stalled tube and cover-up, followed by Club Marketing Manager Mark Campbell and Johnno Bonello. The judges commented that Mr Campbell was on his best behaviour, not incurring even one drop-in demerit throughout the event.
In a Junior Final that saw every rider going off like there was no tomorrow, Jedd Felice wrapped up a second consecutive victory to take him to the top of the Junior ratings.
Only centimetres behind was a fast finishing Xavier Izzard. And right on his heels were Ned Coleman, Logan Weir, Jae Withers and Shannon Hatheier.
The Groms were in their element, with their third straight pointscore bringing out the very best from all contenders.
Dion Earle delivered a stunning backside attack to just edge out Sam Schriek, Riley Lee and Henry Clarke.
So now it’s on to June, with dates set for 1-2, and 15-16 as back-up.
